This FACT indicates the total number of vehicles kilometres travelled in each capital city per 100,000 persons in the 2015-2016 financial year. Statistics are represented in billions of kilometres. The city with the highest vehicle kilometres per 100,000 persons was Canberra with 2.02 billion, with the number of commuters from Sydney and Melbourne combined with the lack of a shipping port the likely reason for this high number. The cities with the lowest total vehicle kilometres per 100,000 persons were Adelaide and Darwin at 0.81 billion kilometres.
