This FACT indicates the number of Australians with Islamic affiliation in each capital city, per 100,000 persons. Islam is a monotheistic and Abrahamic religion articulated by the Qur’an, considered by its adherents to be the word of Allah, (Arabic for God) (Wikipedia, 2014). Indonesia is the largest Muslim-majority country and makes up 13 percent of the world’s Muslim population. Islam is also widely practiced in South Asia, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa.
Results from the 2016 Census show that the city with the highest proportion of people with Islamic affiliation is Sydney, at 5253 per 100,000 persons. The city with the lowest number is Hobart, at 696.
