About
How committed are people to environmental conservation really? This FACT indicates the households that are willing to pay extra for green power in each city. Greater awareness of environmental issues and higher energy costs has prompted household interest in energy efficiency, though a great barrier to change remains the cost of green energy implementation. Across the capital cities of Australia, over 87 per cent of households reported that they had taken steps to limit their use of electricity between 2007 and 2008: an impressive figure.
According to data collected by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the city the most willing to pay more for green power is Perth, at 40 percent. Sydney, the city which experiences the highest living costs, is the least willing at 34 percen.
