About
How attractive is your city? This FACT indicates the percentage of people residing in each Australian capital city in 2016 that previously held residency overseas in 2011. The city with the highest percentage of expatriates is Sydney, at 8.9 percent – and consequently the city with a comparatively high number of residents who were born overseas. Sydney is closely followed by Melbourne and Perth on 8.7 percent. The city that has attracted the least international residents is Hobart, at 3.5 percent. A high proportion indicates a high migration rate, which has economic growth implications driven by labour opportunities and investments.
