About
This FACT indicates the percentage of people who attended performing arts venues at least once between 2013 and 2014. Performing arts encompass a variety of performance forms, including theatre, music concerts, cabaret and variety shows. Visiting a performing arts venue, unlike most art galleries and museums, usually requires purchasing a ticket to attend a performance. These figures may therefore be influenced by an individual's amount of disposable income, as well as the variety and frequency of performances.
The ACT had the highest percentage of people attending performing arts venues with 64.2 percent of the population. Brisbane has the lowest attendance rate, at 48.5 percent. Interestingly, there seems to be no correlation between the states who attract big-name shows and the states with the highest attendance rate.
