This FACT indicates the percentage of the population whose parents were both born overseas, and is sourced from the 2016 ABS Census. The city with the highest percentage of first generation Australians is unsurprisingly Sydney, at 49.4 percent; which is in keeping with the percentage of people with non-Australian ancestry. The city with the lowest is again Hobart, at 16.8 percent. The Australian average is 34.4 percent, or just over one third of Australia's population.
