This FACT indicates the total number of reported cases of sexual assault in each Australian state and territory. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has suggested that this data for the Northern Territory, Tasmania and the ACT be intepreted with caution as it has a relative standard error over 50%. The figure has been taken from cases where the victim is over 18 years of age only.
The state with the highest number of reported cases in 2016-17 was New South Wales, with 31,300. The state with the lowest was the Northern Territory, with 1,000.
