This FACT indicates the median price of last ecstasy, also known as MDMA, tablet/s purchased by jurisdiction. This information was taken as part of a survey from people who were known to ingest ecstasy on a regular basis. Comparatively low prices for the drug in the United Kingdom and the United States mean that Australia will remain a target for MDMA imports. The Australian Federal Police work closely with Dutch authorities, amongst other transit country authorities, to help combat drug trafficking and quash attempted imports into Australia.
The median has been used because it gives a more accurate representation of the data set, as it is not influenced by figures that sit well outside the normal data range. The capital city with the highest median ecstasy price in 2017 was Darwin, at A$35 per tablet. The city with the lowest median price was Adelaide, at A$15 per tablet.
