How prosperous are the inhabitants of each Australian capital city. This FACT indicates the employment rate of each Australian city, for persons aged 15 years and over who reported being in the labour force in 2016. There is no minimum requirement of hours to be considered employed. As well as being an important topic for individuals and families, employment rates are an indicator of the economic health of a city as well as an important factor for policy makers at state and federal government. Sociologists argue that economic health encourages social health, with this in mind, interesting comparisons can be drawn between this data and crime rates, as well as other demographic features of cities.
