Home ownership is a widespread aspiration in Australia: owning a home is a fundamental part of 'The Australian Dream'. However, in recent years housing prices in major cities have risen, and this dream is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. So, which city holds the title of the most valuable housing? Which city is the best for investing in property?

This FACT indicates the average House Value Index (HVI) of each Australian capital city, at the end of February 2018. The HVI aims to measure month to month movements in the value of Australian housing markets, and indicates the level of property and investment value. When compared with the growth rate of housing values, the data presented is an interesting point of discussion for potential home buyers and policy makers. This FACT is indicated in thousands of dollars.
