About
This FACT indicates the percentage of those aged 15 years and older that volunteer in their community. The Victorian Community Survey found that there was a strong correlation between the rate of volunteering within a local government area and the degree to which people felt they were part of the community. Volunteering is generally higher in non-metropolitan areas than the capital cities. However, Canberra stands out as the city with the highest rate of volunteering at 24.1 percent, higher than the national average and even higher than in non-metropolitan areas. The city with the lowest rate is Sydney, with 16.7 percent.
