Western Australia's capital has exploded in recent years, mainly thanks to the state's huge mining boom. Reflecting this new-found wealth, Perth's skyline has shot up, and is increasingly like a cosmopolitan metropolis. To escape this development boom, many head to Kings Park - a public garden oasis in the centre of the city. Head a little further south and find Fremantle, a new hot-spot for boutique bars, breweries, and eateries. The city's residents are largely left alone to enjoy these new developments, however: Perth is Australia's most isolated city, and are so far west that it is at least two and a half hours behind the rest of the country.
