Home ownership is an important part of the Australian Dream, but how many have actually realised it?      This FACT indicates the percentage of privately owned dwellings with a mortgage in each Australian capital city. Just over one third (34.9 percent) of occupied dwellings in Australia are owned with a mortgage. In 2011, the city with the highest percentage was Perth, at 39.8 percent. The city with the lowest was Sydney at 34.8 percent.
