Data confidence level:
This FACT indicates the proportion of new motor vehicle sales (not including motorbikes) that occured in 2010-2011 per 100,000 people. While this can be deemed a burden in terms of the negative environmental impact, it is also an indicator of economic prosperity, and is therefore sorted from high to low.
The state/territory with the highest number of new car sales is the Australian Capital Territory, 4.4 per 100,000 people. The state with the lowest is Tasmania with 1.5 per 100,000 people. This is a rather predictable result since Canberra and Hobart also represent the cities with the highest and lowest median household annual income.
