This FACT indicates the average number of children in each family residing in Australian capital cities. The highest number of children per family is tied between 4 cities: Brisbane, Darwin, Perth and Sydney, all averaging at 1.9 children. The second place is tied by the remaining four cities: Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart and Melbourne, at average of 1.8. These are interesting statistics, as greater variation in numbers would be expected after considering such things as the average ages of state populations.
