This FACT indicates the death/mortality rates of each Australian state per 1,000 persons. Standardised death rates (SDRs) enable the comparison of death rates between populations with different age structures by relating them to a standard population. SDRs are expressed per 1,000 persons. The state with the highest mortality rate per 1000 people is the the Australian Capital Territory at 5.3. The state with the lowest mortality rate is Queensland at 2.8 per 1,000 persons. The state/territory with the highest SDR’s in the Northen Territory, at 7.7 deaths per 1,000 persons. The ACT has lowests SDR at 4.9 deaths per 1,000 person, which is below the National average of 5.5 deaths per 1,000 persons.
