This FACT indicates the percentage of the population who attend cultural venues such as libraries, cinemas, museums or zoos, and who take part in events such as music concerts and performances. The Australian Bureau of Statistics conducted its 2009-2010 Survey of Attendance at Cultural Venues and Events between July 2009 and June 2010. This survey involved collecting information about whether people aged 15 years and over had attended at least one selected cultured venue and/or event in the 12 months prior to interview. The total is based on attending at least one venue or event.
The results of this survey revealed that the Australian Capital Territory has the highest percentage of people attending at least one cultural venue or event per year, at 93 percent. New South Wales has the lowest attendance rate, at 83.2 percent.
